Engine Stalls When Tapping Gas

I have a 95 K1500 4x4 5.7. When I tap the gas, the engine stutters. If I keep tapping it eventually it will stall out. With normal driving it is perfectly fine. Anything come to mind on what might be causing this?

EGR valve internal spring may be getting weak, allowing it to open when it shouldn't.

If you try to hold the throttle just barely off-idle, does it stumble? Same issue.

Before just shotgun-replacing the EGR valve you might consider making a blockoff plate out of some scrap, and try it as a test. If it clears up the problem then replace the valve only with a Delphi direct-fit item (most likely # EG10099 but double check your app to be sure) as the more generic one-size-fits-many rarely work right.
