I have a 96 big block and I recently picked up a mid 80"s blueprint and balanced long block that has 500hp at the crank. my question is, has anyone swapped a older BB and used it with a Vortec set up. I know the intake ports are different but the ovals on the intake will cover the rectangles on the head and it may be alittle restricting but should be fine. the CKP is a concern but I think the trigger wheel is behind the chain cog and should be transferable to the older motor (hopefully). I should be able to find a spot for the knock sensor. I believe I shouldn't have any other sensor issues. I don't know if the mounting holes for the accessory brackets are all the same. any KNOWLEDGABLE input would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

The motor should just slide in. You are going to need a major tune with that much power. You may even need bigger injectors. What is so special about this long block? Is it bored/stroked? What makes it 500 ponies? Is your can profile gonna work for those vortex heads? The power is as only good as the parts that are in it. It might be worth your while to put AFR heads and go carbed or maybe drop some some coin into a easy efi set up. Just my .02

I would just run a carb setup. Seems like it would take thousands to get efi runnin. That or the ez efi setup. Which will still be thousands. What transmission are you running? Sounds awesome. Perhaps a build thread is in order...

An easy efi runs for$2000. It's crazy expensive. I agree with carbed. AFR heads are the best heads. But we defiantly need more engine specs to give any real answer.

Not an easy swap IMO unless you go carbed. I don't understand why you think the long block has 500 hp alot of that depends on the heads which you don't have on hand and good BB heads are not a cheap endeavor.

it is stroked, the build sheet is with the motor at my customers shop that i got it from, so i can't give you the full specs at the moment. he built it for his dads suburban to pull a camper, he has since sold the camper and pulled the motor out. i do a lot of bartering with customers (i sell tools) for various items. i couldn't pass this up. I figured on the injectors but i didn't take the tune into consideration. maybe ill save it for another project and go with plan A which was headers, cam/lifter combo, cold air, and a throttle body. I see in your profile you live in tamaqua, I'm not to far away on the nj side of the Gap. is there anyone in the area that does tuning on GMs?
