My dad recently got a 1988 C1500 in really good shape with 86,000 miles. It has the stock 2.73 ratio rear end. He is looking to swap them out for 3.42's. Looking at Motive Gear, they list 2 different sets of gears, 1 with ABS ring and 1 without. We are thinking this truck does not have the ABS ring. would like to confirm this before ordering new gears. Thanks.

My 88 didn't have that. My 93 Camaro did. 88-00 all use the speed sensor for the rear ABS. Now that I'm thinking, you may need a different carrier for that gear swap. The Camaros are like that. 2.73 had a different carrier than the 3.42 cars.

Mine did too, but I went to 3.73s on that truck. If there is a split, 3.42 and 4.10 would have used the same carrier.

I'm just thinking a 10 bolt should fit any gearing for a 10 bolt???

I just looked up an 8.5/8.6 Truetrac and it didn't mention a split so he may be gtg there.

Thanks for all of the replies. From what I have read the carrier split is at 2.73.
2.73 and numerically higher use the same carrier. We had considered the salvage yard option, but prefer to keep the truck close to original.
