S10's were v-6 engines. I dont think just switching the OS will let it work on a V8. I think the number of cylinders is hard coded in just like the firing order.
Why doesn’t the s10 have a different part number? That’s my positive outlook crumb atm.

You are right, I was totally misremembering, no change in the hardware itself. I did come across what might have given me that fuzzy memory. It looks like HP tuners has a problem with tuning it if you don't change the VIN on the ECM to match a random vehicle that would have come with the OS you want to tune from the factory. Something about HP tuners being able to tell that a V6 VIN wouldn't have come with a V8....

You can use PCM Hammer to change the VIN to whatever you want before trying to tune with HPtuners
