Definitely. I only have a limited experience with high ambient temps since installing, but did have a 100+ degree day last year, drove down the highway at 80 for about 25 minutes, then 30 through town, stopped and let it idle for about 15 minutes, all with the a/c full blast in the heat of the day, and the gauge never budged from 195 (tstat temp)

It had the weird 5(?) blade fan, with the uneven blades when I bought it, it sounded like a semi truck most of the time. Then ran aftermarket electric fans for a long time with continuous issues.
Thanks. Oddly enough, when I searched in RA for my vehicle, this fan does not come up. However, it does come up when I search on the part number you provided. According to the buyer’s guide, it’s for 1997 on up. Mine’s a 1996

I decided to take it to Jim’s shop to get the cooling system flushed, since I don’t know when it was last done. I did so mainly because I don’t want to deal with the old antifreeze; particularly the disposal.

So I called them at 8 this morning (Monday), told them what I wanted and they said to bring it in. I told them that the temp gauge was reading a couple of tics above midway when towing up any sort of hill. They said they’d check the system out first, before flushing the coolant, which made sense.

An hour and a half later they came back and told me that the radiator appears to have been replaced fairly recently, meaning that the antifreeze was also changed. The cooling system has no leaks, and the antifreeze is still within spec. The fan clutch is functioning normally.

They said they’d do the flush if I really wanted it, but didn’t feel that it was necessary as everything in the cooling system appears to be functioning normally.

Oh, and they didn’t charge me anything.

Our next trip is in two weeks. It will be our first foray into the mountains since last year’s debacle, where we drove over 150 miles and then had to turn around due to the VCM failing.

Although there is a still a small part of me that is nervous about this trip, mostly I’m cautiously optimistic.

We shall see.

Never trust the analog 90s gauges, find out for sure what the ECU says.
Thanks. I still have to figure out my OBD2 dongle for measuring temperature, if in fact it does that. I’ll have a look in the next couple of days. Worst case I could hook up my scan tool and compare that reading with what the gauge says.
