I have a 1993 GMC Sierra K2500 with the 6.5 Turbo Diesel, It has a 5 speed manual transmission - And I am wondering what one it has, or how I can tell which one it has. My current one has 301k+ on it and it is starting to fail (popping out of 1st gear, 3rd gear is making a popping noise, whining) I've checked my fluid level and it's fine, Changed it, No change.

Lower 1st gear and there was something different with the slave cylinder. I believe that one is internal and the other is external. I believe that there was an issue with using the wrong tranny withe the bell housing.

Yeah, 1993-1994 are the 6.34:1 1st and reverse, 1995-up are 5.61:1 - and apparently, something I did not know, 1991-1992 are 6.32:1 1st/reverse, no idea why, but whatever.

1991-1994 has the old style case and bellhousing with the traditional external slave cylinder and ball/fork arrangement for the release bearing.

1995(?)-up has a slightly different case that holds a different front input shaft bearing retainer, with mounting for the integrated style slave cylinder and release bearing, which also of course requires a totally different bellhousing.

The (?) is I'm not 100% sure 1995 has this setup, but I do know 1996-up does.

I pulled one out of a 95 awhile back to swap into my 88. It had the older style external slave but doesn't seem to have the lower geared 1st that my 92 has.

Thanks for responding; I was pretty sure 1995 still had the older case but new gearset - had read that numerous places - but without having seen one in person I didn't want to say for sure.
