88-94 Single DIN Shallow Chassis

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone had any experience installing a shallow chassis single DIN radio in the cassette player location? I don't use CDs anymore and really want an aftermarket radio that plays USB and AUX. I don't like how a regular single DIN unit sticks out and was thinking a shallow chassis unit might fit in and mount flush like the factory cassette and EQ units do.

I put an aftermarket in mine that is standard size and the flare isn't all that noticeable. The biggest problem I can see with your idea is how do you find a cover plate that is flat and not flared? You likely will have to make one. This is what mine looks like and I can't see much of a problem with the way it looks. There is a flare but not too awful. If you can find a flat plate your idea should work if you find a skinny radio.
