I have 1993 Chevy k1500 4wd. It originally had a 4l60e previous owner swapped it to a 700r4, the guy said his reason was because the 4l60e had blown up. He was told that if he swap it to a 700r4 that, that would work. Once it was put in by him it only has 1st 2nd & reverse, he never bothered to wire it up like it’s supposed to be. My question is once i get it back from the shop how would i wire it up using the original 4l60e harness that’s still up underneath and attached still? I was told by a transmission specialist that the pink wire is all I need for 12v for the lock up? I definitely need some help here! Trust me I tried everything. Mind you I been driving it like that for a year.

What?

The 700R4 needs a throttle valve cable hooked up, set up and adjusted properly. There's no such cable or provision on a 1993 4L60E-equipped truck. You have no 3rd likely due to the 3-4 clutch pack being wiped/smoked due to no TV cable being present hence no line pressure rise in the trans. The wiring for the TCC functionality sounds like it's the least of your concerns.

Is the pcm-to-transmission wiring harness and transmission's VSS wire still present and intact? If so, have the shop install a rebuilt 4L60E. Keep the 700R4 to sell as a core.

yes everything is still there and intact & previous owner said his reasoning for swapping from a 4l60e to a 700r4 was because, someone else told him that it’d would work. But my main question is, I can go back to the 4l60e with no problem? I threw away the old one and the computer! Would I have to get that as well?

On my 1993 I had the 4L60e rebuilt several times till I bought a rebuilt one from O’Reilly’s Auto Parts and now it’s trouble free well worth the extra money.

You threw the computer (aka powertrain control module) and the transmission away?

Why did you do that?

And yes, you'd need a replacement pcm along with a rebuilt or reman 4L60E (1993 or 1994 unit).

so when I first got it, I didn’t know at that time, and the guy also told me that it’d work once I get the wiring done. But he put in that 700r4 burned up and the torque converter. With that being said, now that I know I can go back the way it was from factory! Thanks man I appreciate it. I’ll definitely come back on here to keep you updated. Mind you truck as been sitting for pretty much 1 year half

Sounds like the guy you spoke to didn't know is rear end from a hole in the ground...All too common when it comes to auto repair, unfortunately...

Yes, keep us posted...Hope you can get it back on the road in the near future.

You got lied to and ripped off bud.
The 700r4 doesnt use any part of the 4l60e wiring harness.
The 700r4 is a throttle cable controlled mechanical linkage.
The 4l60e is an electronically controlled transmission.
The only thing they have in commen is that some early carbed 700r4 torque converter lockup runs through the brake switch and the cruise control.
And 4l60e lockup also runs through the cruise control and they all run through the brake light switch.
On gm cruise controlled or electronic transmissions since about 1980
Yes, power to the purple wire will make your brake lights work and should keep your torque converter from locking.
Whoever is telling you this story is either full of **** and stupid or they are liars.

We know that those people are blood suckers.
But, taking advantage of somebody who is just starting out in life and you are so ******* heartless and souless that you feel some kind of satisfaction because you made a few bucks by ripping off some young person.
Yippee! you big man

I just need help with this it’s very confusing I’m only 18 and I am familiar with the 90s chevy but only little things. I know nothing when it comes to trans and everything with that. But anyway I have this 93 extended cab 4wd pretty much just been sitting for a year. The guy I bought it doesn’t not know a thing. So when I picked it up. I check it out and everything, made sure it looked good underneath (since it’s a northern truck) ,the first thing he hands me is a map sensor and says that it will bring 3rd and 4th gear back, (for the 700r4) and me not knowing anything at that time I took it and drove it home under 40 mph. He also gave me a computer of some short I don’t remember because my dumba** threw it away along with the burned up 4l60e it had in it before, the 700r4 came in. So I really don’t know what do it, I really like this truck! I been though some much with this truck. It’s also my first truck !!
