My cargo light on my '94 only works with the door open, is this how it's supposed to be? Is there any say to bypass this? Would like to put amber LED's in it and run it a a dust light for off-road use...

Yes it's supposed to be like that. So if you forget to turn off it will anyways. You could always run the wires to a switch of your own to make it work without the door open

True but then I have a factory switch hanging out useless. Wanted to use the stock stuff for something clean. Cargo lights with LEDs, and a separate dust light it is I supposed

It should turn on if you roll the dimmer switch all the way up so that the interior lights stay on, then flip the cargo light switch on which is right next to the dimmer roller. if it doesn't you have an issue.
