Dear almighty pool of old truck knowledge,

Bought the truck from a kid who cared mostly about Audio Electronics instead of reliability....
DOPE ended up blowing the stock 350
I swapped the Chevy Performane HT383e motor into my Suburban a few years back.
I had just done the "first phase" of fixing my truck, made her road ready and eager to drive.
Been daily driving her ever since and completely fallen in love.
I am now MUCH wiser and understanding than when we did the backyard swap

Long story short, I know that my truck did not have everything properly routed and all the mounting brackets
I am going to dive into "Phase Two"
Can anyone point me to a good resource for all of the correct little vacuum lines under the hood?
A couple are cracked, blocked off or just lead nowhere...
Same for what the whole wiring harness should look like factory

Thanks,

Kevco

Well, let's see:

On the right side there's the vacuum hose to brake booster, PCV going into valve cover.

On the left side there's the small, hard line for EVAP system and breather hose from valve cover to intake tube.

There’s also a hard vacuum line that connects to the PCV fitting at the driver intake, crosses over to the water valve solenoid located on the passenger firewall near the accumulator. From the solenoid, there’s a rubber line that goes to the water valve located on the heater hoses.

What year is this diagram for?
That is noticeably cracked and rigged back together on my truck
My 1997 has a round EVAP canister, any difference?
I have a 98 Tahoe kinda parts truck and noticed the smaller square canister

Time to buy a Genuine GM service manual.

Some years are available to download from this web site.

I've gotten paper service manual sets from eBay (wonderful--if you get the complete set) and copies of the genuine manual on DVD or CD-ROM (NOT all that great, but better than nothing.)

It’s for a 98.

Not sure what the difference stemmed from on the evap canister, but my 98 has the square one as well.

I also have a small rubber line coming from the heater valve that does not go to anywhere

That would connect to the solenoid valve on the firewall. A separate (hard) line then runs from the solenoid to the PCV fitting. As long as the solenoid isn’t energized (temperature dial is not on “MAX”) then it shouldn’t cause a vacuum leak with the hose to the heater valve disconnected.

I could see having a vacuum leak if the line to the PCV fitting is broken.

Yellow is for the line to the heater valve, red arrow to the PCV:

I had been looking to see what I was able to find for manuals. I saw posts linking to downloads here as well. But 1997 is a ******* year of GM mix and match or one off configurations it seems. I have not been able to find that specific one, always missing on everyone's list. Finding 95 & down is not too tough and 98+ as well

When it was me, I bought the '97 manual-on-DVD from Bishko.

Not all that thrilled with it. It's tough to scroll to the page you want. Doesn't include the Unit Repair Manual.

But for ~$40, it's not a horrible deal.
