Hey all.

Finally got to getting my bumper and grill on yesterday. Love the new look. However, I discovered this oddity behind my grill. I should have taken a picture with the grill off - I know. It's about the size of a pack of cigarettes with a couple of wires going somewhere into the engine bay. I'm a bit worried about it because it's loose. There is an "L" bracket with one mounting hole attached to it but I can't figure out what it's supposed to be bolted to. It,s a little hard to see in the pic below but it's there.

Does anyone know what this is?

Thanks.

Diesel 'Burb? Nice, not too many of those on here! Grille looks good, that thing behind it appears to maybe be a horn? But the bracket is bent, IDK what it is.

Thanks. Yeah. Just got it a few weeks ago. Selling my Sierra (up for sale here). I had a 97 gasser for 8 years too. It's not the horn. The horn is in the center an clearly identifiable. I'll take the grill down and trace the wire - take better pics too. This is driving me nuts - like dripping wires under the dash - I hate loose stuff rattling a round. I beginning to think it's some custom thingy the P.O. might have installed.

Yeah. I searched the entire North East (via Craigslist and eBay) for 3 months looking for a specific, clean 'Burb with this config. Suburbans in general are being dumped ridiculously cheap these days, presumably because of gas prices. The diesels are getting very rare indeed. Many were blown up under Cash4Clunkers unfortunately - no foresight. I love my rig...

Your picture isn't the greatest but it could be the PMD. Open your hood and look for a one attached to the injection pump.

Trace the wires. Where does it lead too?

that is not a pmd, it almost looks like a airbag sensor but i could have sworn everything over 1/2 ton did not have air bags and i don't think it would have a bracket like that

i will tell you though, you have a stock oil cooler and lines which you should get out of there asap before you end up with a junk motor, get the kit from lubrication specialists, the stock lines use clips to hold the lines into fittings and they like to fail leaving you with no oil and a junk motor, i just had a buddy last month with a 95 diesel burb have that same thing happen and now that one has been cut up into scrap metal
