Way back in 1999 I needed a valve job ( valve seals bad).... I had determined, at 220,000 miles, I got a crate 350, 4-bolt main. Total cost was only a tad more than a price of a valve job. ( I swapped the 2-bolt main engine myself). I have 392,000 on the truck. ( I didn't want to wait for the next part to fail, so a new engine was worth it)

I paid under 1000 for this truck. If I can't get a small block to last 100k I have a low mile 6.2L with 6.5 heads that just needs a pump and turbo (mostly) to be running.

I really want a little rat rod type work truck so I want a small block on a budget to get what I want. Tired of being told a tbi 350 is gutless and I just need to LS swap it (not a chance on this budget)

Ok so the guy with the tbi 350 turned out to be a flake. Been over a week and can't get his engine pulled all the way out. Found a running wrecked 00 c2500 5 speed vortec 350. Other than a tune what do I need to make it work?

I know I need an intake but what is the best option for getting good towing power?

You can get the GM intake or the much cheaper one with a TBI adapter. If you do some headers with a decent tune the truck will run a lot harder. How much are you trying to spend here? Marine cam is always an option.

I have a $2000 budget and the whole truck is 800. So I guess 1200 maybe a little more to get it going.

Honestly it's 2 single cab 00 c2500 5 speed 350 trucks. One just has a salvage title and I will use it for parts. The said he would take 1800 for the pair.

I would like to do any work I can while it's on the stand but machine work won't be an option unless it's a must once I open it up.

Marine cam does not involve machine work.

I know that. I was referrng to a full rebuild or more.

At most I was thinking of honing the cylinders and reringing it (one is 175k the other 240k). Definitely reseal and gaskets maybe an oil pump if suggested.

I will check compression on the stand before I decide on rings.

I just want a damn good running truck that will last a few years and be fun to drive (for what it is)
