Truck won't shift out of park

My 95 k1500 won't shift out of park. The transmission fluid is full and looks good (not sure how old it is). My brake lights are turning on, so I am assuming this rules out the brake light sensor. I am not sure if that is correct. Can anyone give me ideas on what to check? thanks
