1991 chevy 4x4 5lm60 to nv 4500?

im sure there is some info on this but id like some utd advice..i do not have the nv 3500, I think they started using those in 92' or 93'? i have a 1991 k1500 4x4 that shifts smooth and works fine but is starting to make some serious rattling/spinning noise that goes away when in gear or clutch...
