Burned Valve and a lifter problem

So....... Update. In tearing apart the old motor, turns out, there were some poorly adjusted rocker arms causing the noise up top. The motor had one 062 head and one 906 head on it. AND...... There was a piece of rag shoved down in one of the coolant passages on the half ton head. When I put...

    Crate motor help.

About a month ago, I replaced my worn motor with a Chevrolet Performance HD L31 from Jegs. It cost me just a hair over 2 Grand, but it's a new motor, and coming from Chevrolet, I know it was done right. To be honest, I didn't mess with any weights on my flywheel. I bolted the old flywheel...

    The Stupid Engine Questions Thread

This is probably a VERY stupid question, but what is the name for the cylinder shaped piece that sits under the valve cup and retainer? It's inside the spring, but between the cup and the seal. When I tore down my old motor that I just removed, I noticed that this piece on my #2 cylinder had...

The old motor didn't look too bad. The problem was that it had two different heads one it (one half ton head and one HD head), and the half ton head (which I believe the previous owner had put on) had a rag stuffed in the coolant passage. The new one looked much better. And it runs like a...

Burned Valve and a lifter problem

Ok. No worries. Looks like I'll be slapping in a whole new L-31R from Jegs. $2070 for the long block shipped..... Hard to beat. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Burned Valve and a lifter problem

I've not heard of the S-10 converter. I'll look it up. Something that will withstand towing in a 4L80E?

Burned Valve and a lifter problem

Pulling the heads wont cost me anything other than new gaskets etc. New heads run around $340-$360 each (assembled.) I've got access to a full shop and professional help if I need it, so labor isn't what I'm worried about. I'm with you though... If the lifter went so bad that it screwed the...

Burned Valve and a lifter problem

Oil consumption is non-existent. It doesn't burn ANY! Oil stays clean between changes, and with the exception of the lifter / burnt valve noise, the bottom end sounds silky smooth. Compression is good in the other cylinders. I appreciate the thoughts guys. I'm thinking..... I may grab my...

Burned Valve and a lifter problem

Well, I did it. 220K on the ticker and I burned a valve on the CCSB L31. It's had a very very slight miss in it on #6 for a little while, but to be honest, I was in denial. After pulling the tractor a few times this past month all over the place for friends and odd jobs etc, I definitely know...

It wasn't the lower gasket. The Donut on the driver side was completely shot. Got it swapped out, and I went ahead and did the passenger side while I was at it too. Painted the wheels black. I really like the darker look. New OEM tail lights, and now everyone can see when I hit the brakes. Lol...

    Torque app for android.

OK. So I'm going to revive this old thread. Sorry. I picked up my ELM327 v2.1 recently. I have the paid full version of torque. Here's my problem. The adapter and app work flawlessly on my 2014 VW Passat tdi Premium, but when I try to connect it to the k2500, it wont read the ECM. I tried it...

So I've got that one fixed but after towing day before yesterday, I've now got an exhaust leak on the left bank at either the donut or the exhaust manifold gasket. Time to do those now. sent via a carrier pigeon baited with mayonnaise.

    What have you towed lately

I was wondering too. Mines just a plain 18' heavy duty pipe top utility trailer. I keep the tractor back some to keep the tongue weight down, but the trailer is standard. sent via a carrier pigeon baited with mayonnaise.

Sweet. Congrats. I'm ordering mine too. Did yours have three or four plugs on the top of the assembly? NAPA told me there were two different versions. I'm a little hesitant now to order before I can get to mine to see how many plugs it has. BTW......I read your build thread, and I LOVE your...

Well, we've got some mowing to do tomorrow in New Waverly, so she's loaded up and ready to go first thing in the morning. This is really about the extent of the workout she ever gets. sent via a carrier pigeon baited with mayonnaise.

Wow. They have the Delphi for $139. Looks like it's time to break out the debit card. I will keep the old one in the barn. If this new one craps out, I'll just have to run at 53 psi again until the next replacement comes in. sent via a carrier pigeon baited with mayonnaise.

I was just curious because I don't have a CEL at 53 psi. My mechanic thought that was unusual given my rough idle. Since you were 3 psi below me, I was just curious. Has anyone just put the new pump into their old sending unit as opposed to buying the whole new unit?
