    Bench seat re-upholster

My truck has the bench seat with the fold down armrest for the driver. At 190,000 miles the driver seat is pretty worn, including the edge towards the door. These are the seats with the upholstery glued directly to the foam. What are the options to replace the foam? I can put a seat...

    AC noisy

In the cab I hear what I assume is refrigerant flow. Is this OK? It seems to be working well, cools the cab down quickly. I have never heard this on another vehicle. I only recently got the AC working again. I had everything replaced except the evaporator under the dash.

    timing chain and distributor

I am going to order the parts and replace the timing chain and distributor. In another thread it was recommended to use a Cloyes 3202S or equivalent. There was a comment to use the single chain rather than a double. What is the advantage of one over the other? For the distributor I see...

    MPG

My truck gets about 10.5 to 11.5 MPG in city driving. Is that typical for these trucks? Stock, '93 RCSB, 4L60e, 305, 188,000 miles.

    blinker issue?

When I put on the turn signal I get the normal blinker sound for a bit. Then it starts to speed up. All the blinkers and lights are working. The volt gauge bounces in time with the turn signal. Any ideas on whats up and where to start? Alternator is less than a year old. I replaced...

    painting door sills

I have a rust spot or 2 on the drivers sill. I am planning to sand it clean, prime and paint. It will just be a small area and I am thinking to get the correct color auto paint and use a brush. I will put on several coats, then sand it flat and clear coat. I do not want to fool with a spray gun...

    electrical connectors

I got these from Amazon. They are the correct style but the wire is 18 gauge. Where can I get them with a larger wire, like 12 gauge? Or better, what vehicles have these male connectors? If I can find them in the junkyard that would be great. Then I can get them real cheap. Since I am...

    plastic repair

I was replacing the heater core and cracked the plastic cover. Do any of you know what type of plastic the cover is made from? If I can figure that out I can get the correct repair epoxy or maybe even plastic weld it back together. Thanks.

    New AC install

I have a '93 Silverado single cab project truck for my son and I to work on, teaching him some repair and PM stuff. The old R4 compressor was shot so I am looking into options for replacement. I need some comments and opinions on my plan- Install new compressor, accumulator, condenser, hoses...

    seat belt buckles

I want to replace the old plastic/rubber sleeves on the seat belt buckles. Do the buckles come apart? I don't want to ruin them trying to take them apart and not knowing the procedure. The new sleeves won't fit over the mount hardware or the buckle.

    audio stuff

So, I have been looking at options for speakers and radio. I like the look of the OEM radio. But, it has the problem where it is stuck on 1:00. I found a company that will repair it for $150. Not sure that is the smart thing to do tho. I am starting to think I should just do the Metra single din...

    dash vent, tape deck

I found a factory dash vent piece with the cubby. The other image is the OEM piece with the hole for the tape deck still installed. I am trying to get an OEM radio that works. If so, I have a nice trim part now(not gonna install a cassette deck). Knuckledragger sent me his old radio but I can...

    Air conditioning questions

It is getting close to AC season(who am i kidding, around here i run AC at some point every month) and my trucks system is shot. I plan to replace the compressor, accumulator, hoses, orifice, and condenser. Looking at condensers I occasionally see some that say they are for R134, but not many...

    carpet insulation

The heater core leaked, put a lot of coolant in the passenger side floor board. The jute and insulation on that side are ruined, seems like the coolant just won't dry. I pulled all the wet material out and need to replace it. I had removed the carpet to pressure wash it when I got the...

    from 15" to 16" wheels

I want to get 16" wheels for when I need new tires. Currently the truck has the original 15" steelies with trim rings. This truck is pretty much all original and I do not plan to trick it out. It is a project/learning vehicle for my son, we wrench on it together. I would like 16" alloys, OEM...

    steering wheel

The foam padding on the steering wheel has come loose from the metal part inside the foam. Hope that makes sense... Other than that the wheel is fine and in good shape cosmetically. It is the OEM wheel. Is there a way to fix this problem other than replacing the wheel?

    bench seat re-upholster

The bench seat in my '93 Silverado needs to be re-upholstered. It seems that the seat cover is glued to the foam. Makes it real difficult to match the OEM look. I am not real concerned about the OEM look, just want new cloth. What are the options for getting it done? BTW, the seat...
