Thank you, RawbDidIt
Most helpful info.
I will start with the grounds.
When upgrading them do I want to take each one back directly to the battery negative side or do I run new chassis ground from the battery and then ground all others to the chassis?
Apologies if this is n odd questiion.
My experience wiring vacuum tube electronics has taught me that when wiring grounds the best method is the Star Ground (all grounds to a central point); and I wonder if that applies to automotive electrics as well
Best
Ed

I would do one from battery to frame, battery to alternator, frame to motor, then from battery to fender or core support, then frame to firewall. All clean, degreased, down to bare metal. Use rivnuts for firewall, fender, core support, since they will give you the best contact at those points

It's a very low amp push button. One side to the aux battery, the other to the hot side of the relay. It only takes a second to trigger the relay, then there is enough power in the loop to keep the relay closed under it's own power.

I would need to use a switch though, my solenoid uses a constant power feed to close the loop. Need to put in a kill switch too

I have the relay wired to a key on power source for the constant close loop when the engine is running. The push button is only for the rare situation where the primary battery is so dead that the key on can't energize the relay to bring the second battery into the loop. Then the push button uses the aux battery power to energize the solenoid to connect the two batteries.

Yea that’s what I need to do

The star method applies if the central point is the negative terminal of the battery. Of course that is not easily done if you're using 0ga or even down to 4ga wire. I'll probably run grounds to the block, alternator case, and body from the negative terminal. I'll run a ground from the block to the chassis and another ground from the fender to the firewall. Everybody has their own method, minimizing the chains is the most reliable way to connect anything electrical, but I'm guessing you already knew that.

Thanks
And yes I'm in the loop on that.
To keep the bad joke going
We are updating the grounds to keep our trucks humming; and I update the audio grounds to keep the tube amps from humming.
Learning a lot in this thread
Thanks
Ed
