Well, really enjoy driving this rig around the neighborhood! I got license plates and insurance for it so I can drive it with more confidence. I don't have the "heavy" rear bumper on yet so I am "keeping it local"...The existing electric cooling fan controller actually comes on after all! The switch comes at 190F so I am going to leave it alone. I might use the other kit for the race car. I believe I got all the air out of the hydraulic system? The PS pump still makes some noise but perhaps this is the acceptable level? I am going to the U-Pull yard this morning to get some small stuff like brackets for for the hood latch, plastic clips for the tail gate latch..hoping to get the truck aligned soon as well..Perhaps next week if possible.

I towed the drag car (1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo) home Friday night. The flat tow went well!!
I also found out (using a VIN search) that the truck likely spent it's first 14 years in Oklahoma (probably why the body is still in decent shape), then Virginia for 3 years and then New York state for 4 years. It likely got most "starting rust damage" from it's time in New York state. It also had pretty high mileage when it left Oklahoma (200,000 miles in 2002). It must have been a work truck or something..Hopefully the differential (Dana 70 HD) can last with that kind of mileage. I got a alignment and the shop was able to get the job done..

There are a few things I will work on in the future, for now start to work on drag car soon
-there are water leaks on the top of the windshield, I read this is a common problem with GMT 400s? Hopefully just a seal but perhaps rust damage. For now put plastic around the area when stored outside
-install new fan control (likely do that today)
-get HEI distributor re-curved. I am only getting 25 degrees of total timing
-put a new rag joint on the steering shaft (truck seems to wander)
-one day get carb "gone through" by someone like Luke Seibert http://www.siebertperformance.com/rebuild
-perhaps get a towing converter? https://www.jegs.com/i/Hughes-Performance/512/GM4TOW/10002/-1

I won't actually be racing yet, perhaps later in Aug-- The drag car needs some attention; fuel cell/fuel system install, bleed the brakes, suspension install, verify rev limiter, cooling fan control, electric shifter, get new slicks installed (mine are like 10 years old)
I spent the last two days on the truck, the Lokar TH 400 electric downshift install and cooling fan controller...hoping to get the drag car up on jackstands today and start on it..
lots of work as usual lol, the neglected daily driver needs a oil change too lol

another video, the truck is running way better now. I had a vibration problem due to a incorrectly installed flexplate. On the SBC stroker/400 cube applications it is important to have the various flexplate weights in the proper place..

Hi Jermaine, It is actually a donated piece but I am pretty certain it is from the "Ford Windstar" family of fans. I thought they only came on Windstars but I believe I saw them on Crown Vics etc... I used one of these on my drag car. In total it is about 4 inches too narrow (on the 34 inch wide rad) but should still provide lots of cooling power. The right lower portion of the fan shroud just touches the lower rad hose (rad hose for 90&up TBI 2 piece brackets). I will clearance that portion of the fan...

KRS1, Hoping you can help out a fellow Canuck. I'm trying to find a lower rad hose for my build. I have a CU 624 rad as well. I have put an old school 350 in my 94 C1500 and was hoping the stock rad hose for a 94 with a 5.7 and 34 inch rad would fit but it's not even close. This pic shows your lower hose and it looks like it might be what I am looking for. Is the part number still on the hose?

Hi Ray, The truck is in indoor storage at the moment. I am probably going there next month to start to get it ready for spring. I could try to get the part # then...
I guess you are using the TBI 2 piece aluminum bracket system? If so I just ordered a lower rad hose for like a '92 1 ton truck. It seems like the difference between rads is 41 inch wide vs 34. So perhaps just get a measurement on the CU 624...Here is a part listing I found on rock auto

Thanks for the reply. I discovered that although most rads are measured by core width which would make the CU 624 a 34 inch rad, AC Delco must consider it a 41 inch (full width including tanks) because their hose for a 41 inch fit like a glove.

Thanks again

Ray

Never heard it called a 41" radiator before, as you noticed the core width is the more common measurement.
