Early overdrive clutchpack? The one without that notch that mates to the pin on the case?

Does that Transgo relief valve seem okay? It's shown page 3 of their instructions. Some say it can hang open and you lose pressure. Not sure. I had installed it on my rebuild, then decided to plug the hole and didn't install it.

Dented pan is big no-no. Probably installed it with a regular jack and dented it. Sometimes the neck on the oil filter even breaks from the pressure and transmission loses oil pick up ability.

Coast clutch drum with overdrive planetary can be swapped and this one looks like it has been swapped. I had the relief valve on my 91 without problems for years, but prefer to use sonnax boost valve and not install that pressure relief. On this one, that relief is going away.

I need to do this as well. I suspect the dually has a hammered forward drum bushing because it's moving near zero fluid at an idle. After seeing how hot it got pulling back from OK I bet it's a mess in there. It drops out of gear when you lift, but goes right back in with some throttle. The symptoms don't really track with it being just a band or just overruns, but it's always been this way. What sorts of presses and other special tools are you using? I built the trans in my 1500 back in 2013, but I only did the one and that's it.

Low pressure is not doing hard parts any favors. I managed to revive a 4l60e awhile back that was driven hard in to the ground, but that was just get it good enough type of a build. That one had fully burned out 3-4th clutch pack along with blown sealing rings. Then previous owner blocked fluid flow to 3/4th and kept beating on it until the rest of the clutches were burned to crisp.

Most of my special tools are usually home made things. I have access to a regular press, but otherwise it is just basic tool set.

I built a holding jig that bolts to an engine stand and a jig for holding the rear geartrain, both from miscellaneous steel I had laying around. I didn't have a press when I did mine, but it'd be nice to have one.

I think a spring cage compressor tool is the other tool I'd buy or make if I ever do another one of these.

Here's a link of my rebuild if it helps you any. https://www.gmt400.com/threads/99-silverado-4-3-to-5-3-swap-with-4l80e-bonus.51060/page-4

OP, I didn't see rollerized output shaft on your parts list. Or the Sonnax "no-walk" case bushing. Sonnax makes a kit that does both, which I didn't know about when I did mine. I did the regular no-walk case bushing.

Thanks, I did get all the roller conversion parts to go with it. My spring compressor is just bar with sockets and a press thing. Already a big upgrade from a four screwdriver method that I used first time.

Th400 case bushing or late 4l80e pump bushing work fine & cheaper
Along with chrysler snap ring for use as HD snap ring. Only really cheaper if getting an order put together through transtar or similar. I paid the tax of just getting a kit shipped already put together.

Trying to decide what to do about forward clutch drum. It has ring groove wore. Either find hopefully good used one, get machined and press a sleeve, or give up on this core and use a good spare 4l80e that I have instead that has nothing wrong with it. (Was saving a good 2wd 4l80e for my other vehicle to run as is)
