yeah, I think I'm just going to pass the ole girl onto my uncle. I though long and hard about putting a new motor in/rebuilding, but I just can't justify it. Especially since I've already got so much into my 84 Dodge cummins conversion and it's almost finished. I need to focus on one truck...

The sending units worked. At least I was able to get the coolant temp gauge to work. Before I ended up replacing the oil pressure unit, my motor gave up the ghost...

just ordered new senders from the local parts store, apparently there is a difference between the senders for switch/light only and the full gauges. there is surprisingly little online about this swap.

I didn't really see any way to pull the odometer out. Turns out the oil pressure gauge and temp gauge are not working. I have the service manuals, but they are pretty pitiful. My fear is that the truck isn't wired for those...

Review my overhaul setup

I found a swap thread on another forum that the FItech system has a holley style TV cable linkage. I don't do anymore off roading than a rough fire road, and I don't tow anything. With this sort of power increase is it really going to be worth the hassle and expense of swapping in a 4L80E...

I'll reserect this thread since I just did this swap. My truck appears to be pre-wired for all of the 5 gauges, as they are all working just by swapping the two clusters. Only downside is that my truck now has another 143,000 miles on it because the cluster came from a really high mileage...

It's been a long time since I built the 355, bit if I remember right, it had flat top pistons with valve reliefs. Which I'm calculating based on standard estimates to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 10:1 compression.

My ole girl is drinking oil more and more by the day, and as it's my daily driver it's getting closer and closer to time to give her a refresh. Conveniently for my budget, my ole man is getting ready to swap the 355 we built in his 70 El Camino for an LS3. I'm planning on pilfering parts off...

anybody used one of these things? It certainly is pretty reasonably priced and seems like a simple solution to really upping the HP of our trucks without the hassle of doing all the TBI mods and fooling with a computer chip tune?

terrible noise from tranny 700R4

Truck is driving fine but the tranny is making a terrible noise at idle, and only in park I think- (couldn't get it to replicate in drive with foot on brake). Hope these videos do it justice:

Well I feel a little dumb, showing my total ignorance of automatic transmissions, but my transmission guy said it was in good shape, all of the problems I was experiencing were engine related! Kind of a relief to save $1600 on the rebuild, but is making me think the motor is not in great shape...

So the time has come to do some major work on my truck. It's got sentimental value so ill never sell it, but I'm moving out west in a month and it needs some work. I need it to be dead nuts reliable, and be able to pull a uhaul from Georgia to Colorado. I'd rather spend $4-5000 on this truck...
