So I thought this would be a good spot to put this seeing how it is a maintenance oriented subject. Ask questions, post new information you find, information you know, things you want to know more about. Someone here will be able to chime in and get you an answer.

To start let us know what fluids you run. Weight brand and synthetic/non Synthetic/blend/water bla bla bla this goes for engine oil, trans fluid, diffs, clutch, brake, tcase, power steering, coolant, and yes; even blinker fluid. Also would like to know filtration wise what you run. Even the air filter. Also aftermarket fluid related parts you have. Bypass filters, deeper pans etc.

As a note I made a habit of checking every easily monitored fluid under the hood every time I get fuel and carry enough to top off a small leak. All my other fluids get checked every oil change and I grease the front end with multi purpose of any brand every other oil change.

So for me right now I run Valvoline 5w-30 high mileage full synthetic in the crankcase with a wix filter boxed as a NAPA. Changed every 3-5,000miles. Edit: will be changed every 10 now that I run full synthetic instead if blend.

Trans is currently Valvoline max life conv. ATF. Dexron III. Same with tcase. Trans is changed when the rubber cooler lines blow. Lol. I've never gone far enough to require a fluid exchange. Otherwise I keep a good eye on it and when it loses the last traces of pink it gets a full flush filter and all. Will be switching to AMSOIL this fluid change. Most likely springtime.

Tcase gets changed based on color as well. My 4x4 gets used sometimes during the summer and a bit in the winter. So I look for no pink and she gets changed. Will be filled with AMSOIL when I do the trans for contamination purposes if a seal is/does go bad.

Differentials I run 80w-90 in both front and rear as called for. Rear just got changed to AMSOIL. Front diff will follow next fall.

Coolant is off the shelf stuff 50/50 mix with distilled water got flushed when the new radiator went in. I think the interval is 75,000. I got a ways to go.

Brake fluid is Valvoline synthetic DOT3. Changed last time I needed a full system bleed.

Power steering is just regular old Power steering fluid. For now. Will switch to synthetic when I replace the gearbox I guess.

Air filter is an oiled one that came with my Volant intake. I clean it when it gets dirty. When I run out of cleaner I'm switching to an AEM Dryflow. Gets sandy take it out crush it smack it on the bumper and put her back in til you get home and can rinse and dry it. Epic win. May get a pre filter for the dunes tho.

That should get things started.

Transmission fluid: Dexron VI

Transfer case fluid: Dex VI

Axles: crappy tire synthetic 80w90.

Coolant: Dexcool

Power steering: GM power steering fluid

Fuel: Diesel

Fuel pre-filter/water separator: Racor 30 micron SP3226T

Primary filter/water separator: Stanadyne 5 micron 31316

Air filter: k&n in the OEM K47 box. Been cleaned and oiled 3 times now and going back to to the OEM style paper filter next change.

Have one of these on my '98

On my '97 I use a 'rare earth' magnet. Just about the size of a dime. I stick it on the end of the filter. But, if you know about 'rare earth' magnets, you'll know that that magnet, as small as it is, is a major PITA to remove when it's time for a new filter! Not something that just pulls off like a regular one!
Looks like one of these. But with the strength of it, I only really need one.

Also, all drain plugs have been swapped to the magnetic style.

Other than that.
5w-30. Non-synthetic. Whatever's on sale! Changed every 6-8 weeks or so. (I drive a lot!)
Trans=Dexron VI.
Rear end = 80w90, non-synth.
Most of the fluids are new, but next time I change 'em, I'm gonna put in synthetic.
Last time I changed the coolant I used this.

Like bypass coolant filtration.

Have one on the shelf in the garage. Haven't built up the courage to cut the OEM hard lines.

Oil centrifuge.

Again, on the shelf in the garage. Still assessing if my 6.5 has enough oil pressure to run it properly. Needs 40 psi for effective "filtration" down to 1 micron. 6.5 is rated 20-40 psi as normal. Mine runs right around 38.

AirDog air water separator etc.

That's the Racor sp3226t. I also run a Raptor 100 lift pump and 1/2 eaton pushlok line from tank to filtermanager. This is essentially the same (in some ways better) than the airdog setup.

things like that

Well you definitely have done your research. Air dog was an example. I like fass too. And there's more out there. Get that coolant one done! The centrifuge can filter down even more. Any chance of maybe a higher performance pump to help everything oil related? Maybe a secondary pump to boost pressure to the centrifuge.

The Raptor 100/150'is made by Pureflow, same guys who make the Airdog and Airdog II. Fass is the guy who owns Pureflow's father IIRC. Or brother or something like that. Some kind of family split in thier past. Pureflow guy hangs out on completiondieseldotcom (screen name hightone12v IIRC, real name Tony) and has about the hottest wife I've ever seen. She used to be a TS Fuel girl. 4 kids now and i can see why! One lucky sob....

Coolant is what it is. Been running nearly three years without it. Only reason I wanted it was since my block is cast by NAVISTAR. They have a great foundry, but sometimes the shaker doesn't manage to get all the casting sand out. Couple passes usually sorts that out and then the filter runs clean except for the occasional bit of scale. If the truck had standard rubber heater lines the bypass would have been done already. But I can't bring myself to cut the aluminum lines until I can do it properly and make the filter assembly look like it belongs there. Still working that one out....

The engine oil pump is right in spec. Higher flow pump would just mean more bypass since the bypass is built into the block passage. A higher pressure pump would just have a higher bypass spring, but wouldn't work in a 6.5 anyways. Might just starve the sump too. It only carries about 6 quarts. I'm looking to eventually kick out the pan and get it up to a min 10 quarts or so for a diesel. 12 quarts would be better, but not enough room for that. Diesels live and die by thier oil quality even more so than a gasser.

Hadn't thought about an external pump but that doesn't sound viable. Would probably just go with a fs2000 bypass filter first. I'm currently looking to see if I can swap out the jets on the centrifuge to see if it can work effectively with lower pressures than 40 psi. If it doesn't get up to "ludicrous speed rpm", it's pointless. I also have to work out the return line to the pan. Most just mount it on top of the oil fill tube but that looks all "jacked up" to me. The return needs to be about 1.5-2 inches in dia and a straight shot to the pan or I risk backing up and once again, it becomes pointless. That may come to pass when I do the pan "kick outs"

in case you can't tell, a lot of what I do to my personal truck is patterned off the OTR trucks I've worked on.

Wix for oil filter.

Usually k&n air filter, current running Spectre since it was on sale. 14 in round universal.

Usually run Auto xtra 5w30 since I get cases for free.

Lucas oil extra heavy duty last time I greased it.

Haven't gotten into brakes, axles or diffs yet.

Will be running auto xtra coolant when I flush it. Also free.

One the fence about switching to synthetic fluids...
