I have a 1997 Tahoe that has the infamous leaking oil cooler lines. I do use this for towing in the summer, so I really don't want to eliminate the oil cooler. I also don't want to buy GM or Dorman lines just to have them leak again. I think AN lines would be a permanent solution. Has anyone ever done this? Does anyone know what thread size goes into the oil adapter and into the radiator?

My thought is if the original GM lines lasted almost 18 years, you should be fine replacing them with genuine OE parts and not worry.

You can replace the lines with something else, however if you are paying someone to do it, it's not going to be cheap. Hydraulic hoses won't like to take heat for long periods in a confined engine compartment, especially in close proximity to the exhaust.

A friend of mine that owns an old 6.2L diesel replaced the weeping OE lines with hydraulic hoses, and within 3 years, he experienced a failure. YMMV.

If you were to use a hose product, I would recommend looking at Parker Push-Lok #836, it's good up to 150C oil temperatures, but I would probably call a product specialist to see if it will work well with your intended application.

that gm design is garbage. I replaced mine a number of times until one day I just did it to it. its in my build thread somewhere. made from Kevlar coated tubing that is indestructible.

I honestly cant recall. I know ised 8AN but the trick part was the silver adapters, I just took the oem fitting that the crap leaky hose clipped into to the store with me and matched the threads.

the radiator fitting is some strange size that doesn't exist so I just customized it.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was thinking off. Did you write down all the sizes of the fittings and adapters in your build thread?
I think the oil adapter holes are 3/8" NPT, right? Do you remember how many feet of AN line you needed?

Getting new high pressure hose and fittings is the way to go.

I forgot the sizes, but we used high pressure hose and JIC fittings on our gmt400 and gmt800 trucks. The factory crimp sucks and anyone in colder climates is especially familiar with leaky cooler/power steering pressure lines.

We just replaced the factory rubber and retained the hard lines. Zero leaks ever since.

I think I got 7ft of line and I ended up with about a foot left over. 3/8 npt sounds about right. I should have written it down, but at the time when I did this there was very little interest so I never did anything with my info =(
