Got a bug up my butt today and decided to tackle the darn extension.

So I felt like a complete moron. Sitting there having a thinking smoke trying to figure out how to drill a 1/2" hole while only having a 3/8" drill. Looked to my right and realized I had a friggen drill press!!!! Lol. Haven't used it in years.

So drilled the 1/2" there, then grabbed my bench vise, put it on the ground. Because that's where they belong right!!! And started hogging the hole with a carbide burr. Wasn't going as fast as I wanted. So stopped, thought what the heck else could do this. Ah ha!!!! Friggin jigsaw!!! So found mine, and sure as $hit it actually had a metal blade in the handle storage thingy. Sweet.

So used that to get the majority of it cut out. Then the burr to finish it up and smooth it out.

Crawled up under, slid the bolt through and torqued to 185ft lbs. Nothing like being on your back and trying to do 25lbs more torque than you weigh. There were words and gas passed out both ends!!!! Lol

I also got the tranny spacer in, but didn't snap a picture. I will do that tomorrow when I go back under and install the shock. There will be a question asked.

And then the next fight will be trying to get a hole drilled through the side of the extensions to put the "locking bolts" in. I only have a pistol grip 3/8" drill, making it very tight to try and get a drill up under there. The day I was laid off a week ago, a had a 90⁰ drill signed out for the weekend. But had to give it back before I left.

Anyway.. . progress is progress.
The 90 degree drill is the perfect tool for engine bays and inside chassis etc, worth the investment.

1000% agree on this!!! Unfortunately finances are tight right now due to job loss. If I can't figure a way, I'll wait until I'm financially back on my feet and buy one. They are super handy.
The one I was signing out at work was the one I got them to buy about 20yrs ago, so it would have been neat to use it for my own selfish reasons...lol. 1st world problems.

You might also look into a 90° angle drive for your existing drill. I have one that Dad bought years ago, when we had to use it to help with the installation of a Heli Coil in the front engine cover on my Dodge Intrepid. I'd pulled the timing belt tensioner assembly off, not realizing I could just replace the roller, and then over tightened it on reinstallation. Not a great idea on a large expensive piece of forged aluminum....
I don't think it was real expensive for the angle drive, and it's all metal and well made.

I've been meaning to buy something like that for years!!!! Especially being a carpenter, I know it would have come in handy more than once. One day.

Hey Canuk. I have a right angle drilled I'd be willing to donate to the cause. I don't ever use it, and it just sits in a drawer of my workbench. PM me your particulars and I'll get it out to you. Couldn't find the correct chuck key, but this one works

Oh my!!!! I really appreciate that @Leeztruk I really do. But I'm way up and across Canada in Alberta, a long way from you.
I'm going to see what I can come up with today, maybe cut a drill bit down a few inches and see if I can get it in there. My dad lives an hour away and I know he has a small air drill. So I can always grab that from him. But lm in no real rush, trucks not leaving the garage until spring.

Again, I appreciate your willingness to help a brother out, exactly why I joined this forum.
You ALL are awesome!!!!

Well, it's available if you need it. Just drop me a line. Gotta be careful with those air drills. You could end up burning the tip of the bit, 'cause they spin so fast
Thanks again. Ya, I got at least 6 full sets of bits plus I bought a Drill Dr sharpening thingy years back. It's a wonderful machine for keeping them sharp and keeping your frustration level down once they dull.

Plan is for a 6.0 LS and 4L80e. Probably run it stock and next winter put a cam in it. Woman's work is on the hunt for one. Unfortunately that's going to be on the back burner unless a new job comes my way quickly. So a bit of a delay, but it will happen.
The 5.7 in there runs pretty well considering it has over 300 000kms. I "hopped" it up back in the day. Has full length headers, true dual exhaust, some MSD parts, K&N hot air intake.
To me the LS in stock form sounds whiny, guess it's the firing order but with a cam they sound really racey.

I honestly haven't been around LS motors a lot until recently. The job I was at had all GM work trucks. Even the 1/2 tons with 5.3's got up and went. When it gets a cam swap, it won't be for 7000rpm HP, it will be for torque down low. I want to get going fast, not GO fast. Hopefully that makes sense. More light to light and on ramps vs 1/4 mile.
I'm not so worried about how it sounds at idle hanging out in a parking lot, that's for kids. But make no mistake, it will be getting a rumbly exhaust. At the very least turbo mufflers, but probably glasspacks. But I will go with the largest diameter and longest ones I can stuff up in there. Don't want loud, more muscle car if that makes sense.
