Since the build is basically done I will just give a quick summary. I bought this Yukon as a stock 2001 5.3, rebuilt 4L60E, 3.73. It’s a fully loaded SLT with sunroof. Sadly I don’t have pics of it when it was stock. I use it for some light wheeling, and daily driver use especially in the winter. Snow wheeling is my favourite as there is no mud up in my frame! I also do some quick camping trips or just sleeping in the back for a few hours on long road trips. It’s got a comfy setup in the back!

I started with a zone 6” suspension lift, Skyjacker Hydro Shocks, and limit straps in the rear to keep the shocks from topping out. Up front I found out that the torsion bars were the softest of the half ton versions after checking the RPO code. I went to a junkyard and pulled out the stiffest versions of the half ton t bars from an avalanche. I was planning for a winch up front so I wanted the extra weight handling capacity. I haven’t done a winch yet but it’s still planned, will be a hidden style.

Brakes all around are stock replacements, and new hubs, upper and lower control arms, ball joints and sway bar links and bushings. Kryptonite tie rod kit and a Cognito steering parts. It rolls on 20x9 wheels with 35x12.5-20 BFG copy cat tires.

Once I had it up and running it was ok but pretty gutless. So back to the junkyard to find front and rear 4.10 diffs. That helped a lot! Lastly speed engineering long tube headers with a dent made to clear the steering shaft, Remflex gaskets, V band connections all through, and true dual 2” to the rear bumper. I still have to weld on my black 2.5” tips. Then a tune by blackbear to remove all the torque management, harder shifts, and a low octane tune. Tint all around.

It sounds great, works well and it’s a lot more fun off-road and in the snow vs stock! Still to come would be a winch, and upgraded sterio but not in a big rush.

speed engineering 1-7/8” headers only because I have a cammed 6.0 to swap in eventually. Magnaflow mufflers.

In a pinch I can fold up the bed to give access for seating in the back seat but normally it stays setup for sleeping. I’m 5 foot 8 and I can sleep comfortably.

the earliest pic i could find of the truck. I got rid of the Kenda Kleaver tires, they looked cool but too much of a mud tire for my use.
