how do you know the new distributor is good? i went through 2 remanufactured units before i rebuilt the original. a bad coil can take put a new module, so you might want to look at replacing coil too.

PWC: Yes, I already replaced the ECT, the other one was corroded and bad

Tay: that's a possibility, was thinking about swapping the icm with the old GM one, but that could void warranty. It's hard to diag when "new" parts are just as bad if not worse. I swapped the coil with a new one, but had no difference, it died within a few minutes of testing

Connect a scan tool, verify ALL the sensors. Verify computer outputs also--in particular EGR and IAC operation.

I wouldn't suspect the torque converter clutch; if it were engaged it wouldn't idle in gear at all. If it were "dragging", partially-engaged, you might have problems with idle stalling--but stepping on the gas should keep the engine running, and you say it doesn't.

Lack of the SES light when the engine stalls concerns me. ECM failure? My only OBD-1 vehicle hasn't stalled in so long I can't remember for sure if the SES light is supposed to come on after a stall. Pretty-sure it is supposed to light-up.

I blocked off the return line briefly with engine off, fuel came spraying out of the throttle body, probably the regulator housing. Hydrolocked the engine until I pulled the plugs. So I guess I can't do that.

That's not good.

What fuel pump do you have? A stock TBI fuel pump shouldn't be able to blow fuel out of the regulator. A higher-pressure pump...maybe. I've never seen that happen, but I've never blocked the return on a TBI with a high-pressure pump.

Conversely, there's o-ring seals on the injectors that might be weak, and there's a gasket on the injector cover that could have popped. My injector cover was warped. I had to flatten it with a piece of plate glass to back-up some fine sandpaper.

I put in a pump from a 97 that was plug and play. So maybe that's why, it should be higher pressure. Anyway, I cleared the flood and it starts and runs just fine, despite the original stalling condition.

The filter is fine, I changed it yesterday to make sure it was clear...

Getting a fuel press. gauge from one of the shops that contracts with us, so we will see the actual number here hopefully soon.
