Not a lot of education in these posts. K&N is absolutely an upgrade over ultra crap Fram/paper filters. The reason people keep the myth alive is because they need a reason NOT to spend 150 bucks on it. The truth is while the actual K&N filter does indeed have larger pores, the filter oil causes debris to stick to the filter while allowing air to slip through. A good way to think about it is to take your dry hand and dunk it into a bucket of sand. The take a wet hand and do the same. The paper filters can't get too wet without deformation while the K&N filters require the oil to work properly. You have to apply the oil correctly of course. And it isn't disputable as to which one flows better, we all know that. Nearly every cloth filter works exactly the same way and they are now coming from the factory like this.

I am talking about a whole intake not just the filter

Yeah I know. Others were talking about the filter material and I wanted to explain the difference. Metal intake tubes are absolutely horrible ideas. People call them "cold air intakes" because they think the smooth metal makes for less friction in the air. The problem is what happens after the first 5 minutes of driving. The metal heats up, becomes saturated and decreases the power. The K&N systems(except the Typhoon) use a nice, thick, insulated plastic intake tube that doesn't get heat soaked as easily.

The weak point is still the filter. If that has a paper filter in it then it isn't any better than the stock intake.

Most of the CAI just pull hot air from under the hood. This is a true cold air intake. It does make a differance

Yeah but the stock intake on our trucks are ran through the fender already. I actually have a K&N 60-1440 with a 66-1401XP on my 94, but only because it came off of one of my old mud trucks. I've thought about putting together a CO2 cooled intake for kicks, I did one for a shifter cart powered by a 600cc bike motor. That was really a cold air intake. Cool air is important, but air flow is more important. A smooth intake tract is better than a corrugated one even if the corrugated one is routed to exterior air. A smooth tract drawing in exterior air is ideal. A metal intake pipe should be avoided at all costs.

You are deffinately the uneducated one, tell my why that all the tests done on paper vs. oiled crap is always that paper filters better? and who cares if they flow better, the stock filter and setup can handle north of 400HP and not to many guys run that on a daily basis.

Seems like your mind is already made up, no need for me to quote the tests done that show the paper crap blocks more air and not more debris ;) You read the Fram brochure didn't ya? Tell me why all the auto manufacturers are now going to the "oiled crap" if the paper filters are better? No point in spreading OPINIONS on here. Don't you remember the Z-Max ads? Standard household bleach performed better than oil. Wanna run that in your truck?

Edit- Ah you have a TB spacer. Don't really need to argue with ya anymore :)
