Sounds like a nv4500 if what you call low is really low like red line at 25mph. Sounds like someone swapped it in

yea, if it feels like you can easily start out in what is normally 2nd gear then somebody probably swapped in a nv4500. Otherwise if it feels like it has proportionally progressive gearing down low then its probably the stock nv3500.

If you have a factory trans, you have a NV 3500. Someone could have swapped in a 4500, or swapped in a knob from one. One that's labeled like your's, I don't think has a syncronized first, so you shouldn't be able to downshift into it normally.

NV4500 could be ordered. Not many 1500's with them but both 2WD and 4WD you could get them. I had a '94 C1500 with NV4500 original as verified by the SPID label in the glovebox.

RPO code on a '92 through '95 will be MT8. '96-up will be MW3

I'll say this; not much fun driving a 2WD 1500 around with one of these. Obviously low gear is useless. The shift feel of an NV4500 is better than most "heavy duty" transmissions but still nothing close to sporty or fun.

These really are transmissions for heavier trucks...though I could see why someone would want it in a 4WD 1500, for strength reasons if you're gonna beat on it, and maybe that low gear could come in handy a few times.
