Yeah i thought the military had a hybrid 24/12v system. They use 24v to start the truck (starter/glowplugs) but everything else is still wired 12 volts.

Got to thinking, it might be so the glow plugs are hotter, thus starting under all conditions and no need for specific vehicles for specific environments.

No, it's a NATO standard. Basically so all vehicles can be jumped by all vehicles using one of these:

You see the recepticle on the front (and rear?) of all CUCVs.

You can see these recepticles on other military vehicles too.

Okay i almost forgot about this thread. For those of you who don't know, i've installed the Optishift (US Shift) in my truck and so far everything works great. See my Crew Cab build thread in Member trucks to stay on top of everything. Overall this is very easy to set up, would recommend for anyone interested in swapping a older motor into a 4L80E powered rig.
