Alright, needing to install the trans temp gauge (Autometer) in my '97 w/ a 4L60E. I know in the '99+ they are pre wired. But are the older ones prewired or have a sensor already there? Or am I better off just putting the supplied Autometer sensor in the side of the pan?

Thanks for any help in advance

GMT400 trucks are not pre-wired with a trans temp sensor.

On the driver's side of the trans, about the middle 3" up on the side of the transmission case (not pan) there is a hex plug, unscrew it and screw the sensor in there.

Oh nice, that is still better than having to drill/tap the pan. Will it screw right in (same thread pitch)? Safe to assume I should probably use some teflon tape?
