I don't know I pulled alot of in my 96 in od and never burned it up, on the plus side of 2000 pounds in the bed several times, dodge caravan, and a gmc s15

little different when you are talking a 21 foot boat that you can't pull faster than 55 mph

So my options are to upgrade to a 4l80e or build up the 60. I just don't understand why the stock 60 isn't capable of handling a 21 foot boat at 65mph. Maybe it's just my 60 can't.

the 3-4 clutch pack (which is what holds it in od) is a known weak point in these transmissions. (i have a monster brand trans at the house with the 3-4 clutch pack shot in it, and never towed anything with it, just played a little offroad and killed it) they just can't hold the pressure.

4:56's with 35's is a close approximation of 3:73's with the factory 265 rubber. I tow my pull truck all over the place with 4:56's and 35 inch BFG's in the summer. The 4L60E will live just fine if you understand how automatic transmissions function and what wears them out. Part of that of course is not using the cruise control, and keeping it out of overdrive most of the time. You need to be comfortable with 3,000 rpm if you intend on doing 70 on the interstate.

I was running 35s with 3.08 gears, sucked so I went to 4.56 and Auburn locker. I towed with 4.56 in Od without any issues. The truck has ran with the 4.56/locker set up for 300,000 miles. I did the upgrade at 60k.

The original trans was built at 120k and then again at 300k. The first rebuild time it was built with heavier and more clutch packs and shift kit. And Aldo on the second but I'm pretty sure 700s are now all built with extra oaks and shift kits.

Another important thing is to keep the temperature of the trans down. Putting in an aftermarket trans cooler will increase the life of your trsnsmission

I think you're estimating pretty low for a 21 foot boat and trailer unless its a 21 foot open aluminum with a small motor.

A 21 footer fiberglass, stern drive and a proper trailer is isually in the 4500-5500 range.....
