Tinkering with a 99 Suburban

Found a Suburban a few days after wrecking my Yukon. Figured I’d end that thread and start a new one for the Burb.

1999 Chevrolet suburban, 5.7, auto, 4x4, 3.08 gears, small lift.

Plans include: swapping any useful parts from the Yukon and fixing any issues first. After that I’ll start on any mods that I may be kicking around. I’d really like a SAS and a regear but we’ll see once everything else is taken care of.

First off I found the lift blocks were in pretty rough shape. So I swapped them out along with the tires and wheels.

So far I’ve replaced the broken grille. Installed the headlights that I bought for the Yukon. Swapped the taillights, replaced the broken factory mirrors with a set of tow mirrors. New pioneer head unit and 6-1/2” kicker door speakers. Swapped door panels and a few pieces of trim. Also swapped the window switches and inner door handle and trim. Tomorrow I have an appointment to tint the windows and add vent shades.

Hey, congrats on the new truck. It should’ve come with either 3.42 (GU6) or 3.73 (GT4) gears - pretty sure the 3.08 was just for 2WD pickups.

You’re right, I must’ve misread the RPO codes. It appears to have 3.73 gears.

Since you have the 3.73 gear, you likely have all the gear you need for the existing tires. What size do you have after the swap over and what makes you think you needed gears?

I misread the rpo code in the glovebox thought it was 3.08. It seems to run fine I just wanted a little more for offroad adventures. But since I discovered my mishap I think 3.73 will work just fine.
