After completion of the tbi mods, is it necessary to paint over the bare metal or will it be fine? If so, what type of paint was used?

Don't get any paint in or around the bores. I didn't paint mine and it's just fine.

Don't paint the interior of the TBI. The fuel over time will break down most paints, and you probably don't want that in your engine. You can paint outside if you want but it's not necessary - it's just aluminum.

If you shave your throttle shaft however, it is steel and it should be appropriately painted. My father painted mine with a teflon enamel paint that is baked on.
