What make , model. Year,. Trucks like big block, 2500 HD 3500 and up have Aux' cooling fan by design. Work harder.
At some point GM added Aux cooling fan to other models to either provide more cooling for radiator, and activated to run to provide more airflow for condenser cooling. A diode is installed to prevent two active power sources. And if it was built with the aux fan it's listed on the RPO tag.

If you don't have the factory service OE service manuals and your gonna do own maintenance. You should download the service manuals here for FREE in PDF. A ton of years covered. At top in the forum search bar enter " service manuals" , in the paragraphs you'll see a member has the links , just click the ones for your year. Some have more than one.
On the glove box door, one tag with VIN, body style, color codes interior/ exterior. Gross wt. / Combined gross=with trailer/ axle wt ratings.
The other tag has a list of three digit codes, letter number combination. These identify what options/ selections your truck was built with at the factory. Example= Z71 became a model style, but it is originally option Z71 = gas charged shocks, skid plates off road. The first chapter in the service manual is all basic info on trucks. Models, size, eng options, colors, service schedules, and list of all RPO option codes and definitions , available for that year production. This is a page from 98 service. The option list for 98 is five pages.
