lemme add my 3 cents since I own a TBI...

1989 C1500 350 220K original miles with no problems...

I will vote TBI since have never had a Vortec.

I've owned both. Had a '94 for 13 years and currently have owned a '96 for 4 years. While I like how clean the engine bay is on the TBI, and it's definitely more maintenance free (i.e. having to replace the spider injectors on the Vortec), the power comparison between the TBI and Vortec is considerable. I'd take the Vortec every time.

I've had both. I'd argue they're equally reliable. I put a blower on mine at 250k and I'll wipe the floor with almost any TBI. Even before the blower it was substantially more torquey than the TBI. Vortec may come stock soft down low, but like mentioned earlier they're massively detuned.

Im thinking on building a 350 or 383 with a mild but toquey cam with a Holley TBI "self learning" kit.

Do it I love my self learning Edelbrock tbi. Or go aftermarket port! Edelbrocks pro flo just dropped to 1600 bucks for the kit with timing control.

I’m still somewhat new to non-carb stuff so what is timing control? Thanks

Are you sure?

A little birdie told me:

TBI peak torque 300 ft/lbs @ 2800
Vortec peak torque 330 ft/lbs @ 2800

Certainly the vortec makes more but from what i understand is that at low rpms, like idle to x amount it makes a bit more. I am pretty sure I read that in a sticky on this site.
