Yes, that's what we're referring to when we say "classic." For a couple years after the introduction of the GMT800 platform you could still order certain trucks as a GMT400 model.

The 400s "454" is 7.4L. the 8.1 is a 496ci engine, and it didnt come out until 2001, with the introduction of the GMT800 HD trucks.

The 2500 suburban and yukon XL went well into the gmt800 and probably beyond, and could have been 5.3 or 8.1 powered in different drivetrain configurations 2wd, 4wd, and awd.
