I'm Awesome
I am approaching 200k on my 2000 K3500 with stock 454 and plan on dropping in a new motor once the clock rolls over. Has anybody strapped some turbos or boost to one of these in stock trim and had reliable results? It's a CCLB so I have acres of room under the cab to rear mount some turbos.
Goals would be something a little (lot) more peppy than stock once you get over 2500rpm (5-6k max rpm) but still have the low end stump pulling ability. I'm at 196k now and should have the winter to plan and built this. If I achieve 5-600HP with matching torque I'd be tickled. I already have a Duramax for going to town and a Camaro for going straight. Just don't want to get bored in my ton of trouble.
Initial thoughts are to build a stout long rod bottom end. I'd be open to forged crank and pistons but only if necessary. I'd keep the factory intake and heads initially as they can be changed in the truck. I have the marine cam to use and might stay with stock valavetrain as they would only get swapped with the heads down the road.
