My next project was to install the trans. One to get it out of my way in the garage, and I needed it installed to determine where to make the holes in the mounting plates. It was kind of sketchy getting into place with the floor jack in the driveway but I got it.

Then I started modifying the original brackets to fit on the intake manifold. The MAP sensor bracket didn't need too much work. I had to move and extend the legs on the throttle cable bracket. I used a scrap support bracket that was roughly the same thickness to make the tabs. The ESC and EGR solenoid bracket was no longer needed so I didn't use it.

Here's the final shape of the bracket. Never mind the booger welds, my friend did them with a basic flux core MIG so they are a little dirty. The Aforementioned tab made from the support bracket was first mocked up using cardboard then replicated in the steel.

Brackets painted. At this point I wasn't sure if I would need the EGR/ESC bracket so it was modified and painted too.

An old trick, I used a bench grinder with a brass wheel and wrapped the end of each valve in masking tape and chucked them in a drill. Then I spun them against the wheel to remove the carbon. They turned out really nice.

Basic mock up with everything installed to check fit. Eagle eyed might notice a small problem with the mounts.

September 27 2017 was a big day for this project. Me and my wife dropped the engine into the bay for the first time to check the fit. As you can see it needed some firewall tweaking, but dropped in pretty well.
