I've got an 88 k2500 6 lug truck. Fuel gauge doesen't work, stuck on E.

What the steps i should go through to diagnose the issue? What are some of the common causes of fuel gauge failure?

Thanks

First try a double dose of Berryman's fuel system cleaner, Seafoam, or Techron. If the contacts on the sender are dirty this has a good chance of fixing it or making it less bad.

It'll take some time for that to work though, so if you want to pursue electrical checks...

I'm not sure how to test the gauge itself, but I believe these senders are supposed to have higher resistance as the fuel level lifts the float. So if you find little-to-no resistance between the sender terminals at the tank connection, that would explain the gauge's empty reading.

Most gm gauges from the mid 60's till 97ish are 0-90 ohms of I remember right. I wanna say in late 97 early 98 they to go 40-250ish ohm range.
