I have a 1993 C1500 Suburban with 11" rear drum brakes. I am going to redo the rear brakes and was thinking of replacing the backing plates since they are so rusted. It looks like you have to pull the rear axles to get the backing plates off.

My question is: Is there a retrofit 2-piece backing plate available? If so, I could cut off the rusted backing plates with a grinder and install the two-piece plates.

Pulling the axle is super easy, just a couple c clips inside the differential. I can't answer if there are two piece parts available, but I wouldn't be scared to buy the proper ones. I could outline the steps if you were interested.
