Hey guys, im about to be putting a yukon posi traction carrier and a 4.88 ring and pinion and all new bearings plus seals in my rear end tomorrow. I think i understand the use of the shims in order to get a good connection with the gears and the backlash correct, do you guys have any dos and don'ts for me? Or any tips/things i should lookout for? Its a 8.5" 10 bolt rear end.

Instead of using a crush sleeve get this kit and a couple extra bearings, open them up a little so they slide on/off easily while you're setting preload. Much easier this way.

Get an inch/LB beam wrench for this.

And a dial indicator for backlash.

Here's a guide on how to, if you don't already have one.

Personally I would stay away from the Yukon carrier and get an Eaton instead. More money, but we've had members here who have had issues with the Yukons.

According to your link it shows it includes the crush sleeve and has the bearings but does not include the sacrificial bearings I linked so you can set your preload easier. I still suggest you get what I linked too. If you don't get it right, it'll whine and howl until it breaks.
