That trans is only used in the Cadillac, with the extra long tail shaft(so far as I know anyway!)

Yup, As I understand it TH400s come in short tail, mid tail, long tail, and Cadillac tail. I have a Caddy tail TH400 in my shop, and I don't know what to do with it.

I missed one of those some years back. A guy was parting out a car but he wouldn't sell the entire car and there was no way I was trying to pull that engine in the middle of a field. Like Erik said, if that was more conveniently located it would already have a new home.

Would a 77 eldorado be a 500 or a 425? And are the heads the same? I know where one is that still has the motor in it,transaxle too I think.

I wouldn't have caught it, if I didn't have one!
My 472/500 might end up going in my '53; that would link it further to my dad and my good friend Denny Freeman. Denny had a '50 GMC short bed back in the '70s, and he wanted to see and drive mine. So that truck, whenever it's done, will be in memory of them.....
Gotta get the newer ones fixed and going more than a week at a time first!

Yup, As I understand it TH400s come in short tail, mid tail, long tail, and Cadillac tail. I have a Caddy tail TH400 in my shop, and I don't know what to do with it.

I had no idea there was a 4th tail length. I was actually considering tail lengths earlier, as I believe my Electra has a long tail. Are they not easily swappable...... transmissions are mystery boxes to me.
