Youll need a nv4500 and transfer case combo and accessories, new drive shafts, clutch assembly, and then a chip flashed for the manual tranny.

Need a steering column from an auto truck or a floor shifter? Remove the clutch pedal assembly, master, and slave cylinders. Find something to cover the hole in the floor. Do some research on the transfer case and see if the mating bolt pattern and output/shaft are compatible. Double check case lengths too so you can figure out if you have to move the crossmember. Bypass the clutch safety switch. The 4L60E is PCM controlled so find a compatible transmission wiring harness, a wiring diagram, and go to town. You may need to swap the PCM for one from an auto truck and repin the entire wiring harness. With decent diagrams it's really not that difficult.

You two could do a trial period where you swap trucks for a month or so to see if you really wanna convert the trans's :)

I'm on the same boat and need some info on how to do it. I have a 95 sierra short bed regular cab, I just blew the 305 on it. Its a 5 speed. I want to drop a Ls 5.3, but don't know what trans. I've researched and looks like a t56 would be the best choice, but t56 is out of my price range right now. So I want to know if any one here has done a 5.3 with a 460l into a gmt400 manual.

If you could get the transmission with the engine and a complete wiring harness, including the PCM, that would be the easiest way to go. They are easily converted to a 3 wire standalone system.
