I'm Awesome
Just checking in. Next weekend I am going to drive up to Rogers Arkansas (6 hrs) to pick up my first GMT-400 truck. Already paid the dealer a deposit to hold it for me and take it off the market.
It's a 97 ECSB K1500, White, 5.7, 164k miles. Super clean! The definition of "old man owned."
I am no where new to the modding scene. I have owned a few NBS, NNBS trucks, along with an XJ, Tahoe, WS6 Trans Am, Fox Body 5.0, along with a few others... I have just never owned a GMT-400 before and I am excited to start driving it and enjoying tinkering on it. I sold off all of my cool cars and joined the "dad club" and got out of the hobby for a few years. My wife saw that I was starting to look a little depressed and my tools were getting dusty, so she pushed me to spend a bit of my savings and pick up the hobby again.
These have honestly always been one of my favorite vehicles. When I think of GM's greatest generation of trucks, my mind goes here! I am only 33, so this particular model is more fresh in my mind compared to the late 70's early/mid 80's trucks.
As clean as it is, it's not absolutely perfect. It is not a z71 truck so it has an open-diff with 3.42 gears.
However, it does have a manual shift transfer case, so that makes me happy!
I am currently starting to shop around for a 9.5 14-bolt 6-lug rear end to swap and maybe even the front diff if the gear ratio is 3.73.
I want to do a slow resto-mod and fix everything from the front to the back that is worn out and mod things here and there to improve it's performance/function.
I hope to do a mild lift and create a street/trail truck that can have some fun but still get jobs done.

PS: these are a few pics of some other rides I have had.
