need too know what trans im suppossed to have

i bough my 91 c1500 with he 350 in it a while ago but to me it doesnt have the right trans. to start it looks too short, and when putting it in gear it has 1,2,3,4 not 1,2,d like dash has. how do i tell what trans im supposed to have thanks

I believe it should have come with either a 700r4 or a 4l60e. Both are essentially the same except the 4l60e is electronically controlled.

It should have a 700R4 with 1,2,D,OD on the dash.

You sure your truck is a 91? Sounds like it had a TH400 originally

Strange. Perhaps the gauges were swapped out of a different truck. IIRC three speeds stopped in 1990. I could be wrong though.

Have you run the RPO codes?

no where are they located and the funny thing is if its in OD and driven up a hill and shakes and bucks like it wants to kick down but also does that in D sometimes
