I recently just bought a 6" rough country lift and already have a body lift on. I plan on running 37-39" tires. Was thinking 4.88 gears but i'm not sure. Would 4.88's keep me around 2000 rpms at 70mph like im running now? Where is the best place to order gears? I've never regeared any axles before

heres a great tool for this. http://www.4lo.com/4LoCalc.htm

btw I used to drive HMMWVs and they have 38s on them. They get quite out of hand at 70mph, and they were intended to have 38s. Is it really worth the risk? I'd save the money and get a beater for the hwy. Just my 02 on the whole "lifted + big tires + highway driver" combo

hummers did not have 38's, the older ones had bias ply 36's and they now run 37" radials

i would go with 4:88, i got my gears from powertrain truck parts out of new york, but they now sell liberty gears and i am unfamiliar with the quality of them, where ever you get gears get a quality set like precision or even yukon, stay away from motive, check ebay, deals can be found there some times

I'm Not going to get into a internet semantics argument over "large tire" and "a few inches". I've wheeled all types of military equipment. The ones I were using had 38s on them.

I dont run highway much at all. My daily drive to work is 3 miles round trip in a 30 mph zone. If I do go somewhere I usually avoid highway and stay in the 55 zones. But Im looking to stay around the stock rpms. its a toss up between 4.56 or 4.88, but i think its going to be 4.88s.

For anything over a 35" tire I wouldn't consider 4.56 for no highway running. 4.88's or even 5.13 if going with a 39 or offroading. I wish I had the money to upgrade my gears to lower for the 38's now.

We put 4.88's in a 92 1/2t with 37's and it drove very normal, not over or under geared and that's on slow roads and at 70mph.
