Just figured I would make a thread documenting the LED projects I am doing on my truck fo anyone who may be interested in doing the same.
First project here is LED 4x4 selector.
Needed:
Rosin flux
Rosin core solder (leaded works best)
3v warm white LED (12V omits resistor)
470ohm resistor
Getting the board ready for the LEDs.
All you really have to do is rip off that incandescent (gently) and pull the pins out of the hole. The easiest way to do this is by wiggling the bulb just enough to access the bottom. The you stick your iron down there and touch each contact as you shim it back and forth.
First LED and resistor installed.
I chose to use a quality 3v concave LED (more of a flood light Rather than a focused beam) and resistor. It is very important where your resistor placement is, as the bottom of the buttons have fins that may interfere with it. I soldered mine up this way to have maximum clearance.
Side photo.
Try and keep it as clean as possible to avoid making contact with any nearby components like those two resistors.
Second light
Light has been removed and the surface prepped with a nice glob of flux
