Does anyone know exactly where the key fob receiver is ? I know it is up under dash and I don't want to pull the dash. if I know exactly where it is with respect to distance from left to right I would cut a hole in top of dash and then patch it I is a 2000 k2500

I don’t think you need to do that. Are you sure the part is no good?

The receiver is attached to a bracket bolted to the right side of the steering column, if you remove the lower dash bezel that covers the steering column (and the metal brackets behind that), you'll be able to see it stuffed up under there. Cutting holes anywhere will not get you any closer to it or make it easier to swap out.
