Is it normal for a stereo to turn off when you shut down the engine?

1989 C1500 2 Door. Stereo works, but as soon as you shut the engine off, the stereo turns off as well. Is this normal? I want to be able to listen to the stereo with the key in the ignition but engine not running. Thanks for any help

Turn key counter clockwise, past off, the stereo will stay on for you.

The older trucks don't have a rap feature (retained accessory power). As mentioned above, turn the key backwards to get it into the accessory position.
