How to align crank and cam after stripped timing gear?

Lol I hear ya better to be safe than sorry I’ve done timing chains before but not when they have jumped or stripped like this. the fun parts gonna be dropping that oil pan tomorrow to get all the nylon teeth out hopefully all goes well and thanks for all the response much appreciated

Another thought, since the cam gear stripped, you won't know if the distributor is 180* off or not until you verify compression TDC and distributor pointing towards #1.


As long as the gears are lined up correctly it should be fine. The gear only goes on one way so the distributor will be relative to the cam unless he pulled it out.

The cam rotates once while the crank rotates twice. If the distributor was attached to the crank he could be 180 out, :) but a piston only sees TDC it doesn't care what stroke it's on.

You're getting in your own head over thinking it.
