head light help

So I have a 97 z71. And my head lights are always on when the key is on. That's how its been since I got it. I have a problem with that because my HIDs are always on and draw extra power and burn out a lot faster then needed. So I've heard its that there is a simple modification that you can do to make it so they are always off until you turn the switch on. does anyone know anything about that

They are daytime running lights (DRLs) started in 1996 on all cars in the US.

Just pull the DRL fuse in the fuse box.
